Join SFDC for a presentation and discussion about the currrent status of the Michigan State Fairgrounds.

What’s the Future of the Fairgrounds?

State of Michigan, City of Detroit & developers all silent
PUBLIC MEETING

SATURDAY, JUNE 10, 2017 • 1 - 3 PM

ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CATHOLIC CHURCH
2371 Woodstock, @ Woodward. Park & entry in rear

  • The developers, Magic Plus LLC, promised that construction would begin one year ago.

  • Magic Plus LLC, is overdue on purchase obligations by two years.

  • The Detroit Planning Dept. held just one public meeting about the Fairgrounds’ future 9 months ago (Sept. 1st ). The plan is a suburban-style shopping mall, despite forecasts that 1/3 of the existing malls across the U.S. are closing in the next few years.

  • The Coliseum and other designated historic sites are falling into neglect.

Stakeholders dissatisfied with this state of affairs will gather to strategize on Saturday, June 10th. We urge neighbors and local businesses who want to see a vibrant future at the iconic site to join us.  It’s an election year.  Let’s support advocates for Uptown Detroit!

What do YOU want to see at the Fairgrounds?  Michigan State University reps will have surveys to get YOUR views. Can’t attend? Sponsor a focus group. Fill out a survey via our Facebook page at “Future of the Michigan State Fairgrounds.”
